I found myself awake early this morning and thinking about a rather humorous incident that happened aboard the Bausell. My boss, HT1 Gary Walters and I were trying to trace a pipe as it ran forward thru the ship. We found this difficult to do and as we got forward of the mess deck into the passageway outside of the crew\'s forward head we could no longer be certain that we had the right pipe. We took our best shot and Gary instructed me to turn the valve on which I did. Now I no longer remember anything about what pipe it was we were looking for and why we were doing this. But what followed I remember as it turned out to be hilarious ... at least to Gary and I. The lieutenant involved, did not think it was funny at all. I am just glad he did not catch us laughing at him. It seems that the pipe was not the right one. It was part of the ship\'s salt water washdown system for NBC warfare protection. The LT. was standing over one of the spray nozzles in the deck and when I turned the valve on the salt water shot up between his legs and soaked him badly. He was not a happy camper. We didn\'t now at first what had happened, but with all his yelling we knew something was wrong so I immediately closed the valve I had opened. If we ever did find the right pipe I don\'t remember . I only remember this incident.

Gentelmen, Lewis K Bausell was my 1st Cousin,from my Mother Lottie Melissa Bausell of Russell, Co, Virginia. I was raised in Mairion, just south of Pulaski, Va.
I entered the Air Force in 1955 and retired in 1979.I would like to be part of your history as it is mine as well,regardless of the service.
