Carmine Limone, SHS Class of 1961, is being honored
by the Stamford Old Timers. Carm ,I believe, was an principal at SHS, and an assistant FB coach there. HOWEVER..... Carm's first coaching job after graduating from Hofstra was at SCHS during our first undefeated season, not the 11-0 year, but the 9-0-1 year.
Once,line coach Lenny Rivers,goaded Kevin Mayes and I into asking Mr. Limone if Lenny could borrow his car.
We had to interupt a study hall that Carm was running.
We got the keys, brought them to Lenny, and he in turn told us to drive the car INTO the school. WHAAAAT Coach Rivers ? He restated his wishes (which were rarely refused) So we drove Mr. Limone's tiny blue Fiat through the double doors on the convent side of the school, drove past what was, in 1966, the football locker room, took a left, and drove down the hall, parking Mr. Limone's Fiat just beyond room 105.
We came close to being expelled by the Dean of Dicipline, but Lenny, after some hemming and hawing admitted to having put us up to it.
After we were realeased "From Custody", Lenny pulled us aside and said. "OK. Forget the keys. The Fiat's door is open so this time just release the emergency brake and roll inside the school again."
And WE were suppossed to be the kids !!!!!
