CHEZ MONICA

  • Chez Monica

Many of you who attended the Prix Europa and the previous Prix Futura spent

long nights in a little, brown café near the Sender Freies Berlin.

A most hidden very basic volkskaffee in the dark sidestreets of the Kaiserdamm.

Chez Monica was and still is the meeting place for the night cap, for

feverish feature discussions, for new friendships, co-productions plans

and radio dreams of all kinds. There I met Katarina Blomqvist from Finland,

who developed with Hannu Karisto new ways to explore the marriage between

radio and Internet. Katarina mailed us this interesting invitation to all

who want to join for a virtual rendez-vous Chez Monica and to share their

experiences on the matter. And frivolous Willem added the drinks!

Come and join!

Chez Monica

I find the IFC-web site

a very useful tool. It provides information of what's happening and it

also has good archive resources. There's one thing, however, that I'm missing

at the moment: a web page to discuss actual programs. Would it be possible

to create a site where we could listen to the same program and be able

to discuss about it?

That type of site could be constructed

in many ways, of course, but here's some ideas how it could work.

First

of all, that type of site would make it possible to get professional feedback

of one's work. And that's valuable!

Site could be a "short feature

corner". It could concentrate on short features, because they are easy

to listen to via the Internet. And as the world is going towards the shorter

form, it is relevant also for radio feature makers to enter that area.

Going short doesn't mean going shallow!

Web

site could also be a test bed for experimental works. It would be a forum

where we could try out new forms and unconventional ideas.

New program could be "released"

at the same time as the IFC-newsletter. So the site would renew itself

once in a month and provide a fresh subject for discussion.

The language of the program wouldn't

be a problem because it is easy to have translations available in the site

as well.

I

know that there is a huge pile of copyright problems involved, but people

do make programs also from copyright free material.

Dear colleagues, what do you think?

Is there any need for this type of virtual "Chez Monica" at the IFC-website?

Would you like to discuss programs also outside the conferences? Or, is

there some other way you'd like to use the IFC-page more efficiently? I

hope to meet you all in the cyberspace,

Re: CHEZ MONICA

a grand idea -- but where is everybody?
