Cytek horse shoes

Has anyone ever had any encounters with Cytek horse shoes. I just read an article on them and am interested in swapping my 2 horses onto them - as i am not pleased with the state of their feet, they regularly throw shoes, and their hooves are in bad condition, despite being regularly shod!

Any response appreciated!

Jennie

Re: Cytek horse shoes

Hi Jennie

I have most of my horses shod with "normal" shoes and have no problems but my friend has her cob in Cytek shoes and swears by them for freedom of action and we use them for our laminitic but find no difference to our other remedial shoes. If you want to read the Cytek website I can find the address for you, just let me know. At the moment it is very controversial and not all farriers will do them or have been trained to fit them so you may find it difficult to start with. My normal farrier thinks they are a flash in the pan and won't do them although he does remedial shoeing specially. I think your shoeing problems may be the farrier not so much the shoes. Cytek are quite expensive (I pay £75 for my laminitc to wear them and only £45 for my other horses to be shod) and this varies a lot from region to region. try a different farrier first then if the problem still occurs look up a specialist in Cytek shoeing.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have viewed the cytek website and was quite influenced. However, when I put up a post on the 'shoes and nails board' - a farrier site, I read an awful tale about how one lady had a dreadful encounter with them! I have therefore decided to swap farriers, and see how the horses get on!

Once again, thanks for your reply.

Re: Cytek horse shoes

Hi Jenny

I have had my horse shod with Cytek shoes for 2 years now. before he had lots of problems, stumbling, laminitis etc. He now has none of these problems and his movement is much more free flowing. My horse is 17 years old and i have owned him since he was a yearling, when i had him shod with Cytek it reminded me of his movement and shape of his feet before he first started being shod, i think that that alone was enough to convince me that this was a much more natural approach to shoeing.

Hope this is of help to you.

Kind regards
Doreen

Re: Cytek horse shoes

hi they are a lot better for fine lightweight horses like tb's but good for all horses all mine and my family's horses have been on them. i would recomend them for everyone (but thats just me!) they last longer and are lighter than usual shoes
