AS THE AV KID SAID, WE ARE OPEN AGAIN THIS YEAR, BUT WITH A DIFFERENT OWNER. COLIN IS RUNNING THE BAR AFTER WORKING THERE LAST YEAR, WITH 2 OTHER STAFF. THE BAR IS PRETTY MUCH DOING THE SAME AS LAST YEAR, NOTHING HAS REALLY CHANGED. HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON IF YOU'RE IN SALOU
Hi Boing Boing.... Paul and Michelle moved back to England. They did have a few pubs in Lancs so I presume they wanted to concentrate on them.
p.s. I wouldn't say mighty lucky. In the end Newcastle and Sunderland were in the most peril. Pride of the Midlands? Just remember form is temporary, class is permanent!
Pity they have moved back, this year will the first time we have been able to come over for three years, was going to pop in and say hello. Never mind, I hope the move has worked out well for them.
Anyway AV, will see your lads in November at the Hawthorns, unless you want to save us all some time and just send the three points in advance. All the best
Boing, Boing!...... 3 years ago! Aha... 3 years ago Jacks was run by Andy. He sold it onto Paul and Michelle. Andy also moved back to the UK. Not sure where, but he was a Walsall fan so that could be his home turf. Also a big Nastic fan in Spain, Andy was a nice guy and Salou misses him!
p.s. A win for Baggies in November? Cheeky! Apart from a hiccup in 2011 we have a good record against West Brom. Played 140, W65, L45 & D30. My advice is please try and stay in the Prem as we need the points!
Sounds like there have been quite a few changes these last few years AV.
Andy kept our kids entertained for years at Jugglers, then I'm sure he used to do a few nights at Champions too, as you say, good lad.
Have many of the other English bars changed hands or closed AV ?, I noticed from their web site that Rodney (is that hypnotist Rodney) seems involved quite a bit with laying on the entertainment at Chaplins , it seems a bit more family orientated by the looks of it nowadays.
Last time we were over it must have been a year or so after Lenny died, we went to The Rovers thinking it was still open as a pub but it seemed to have been turned into more of a nightclub, is it back as a pub now mate ?
Sorry for all the questions AV, looking forward to coming back after our enforced break and was curious about how things have moved on.
Salou has changed it evolves every year the rovers return you remember run by lenny is no more lenny passed away a few years ago. The new rovers used to be double scotch then little brit. Chaplins is now a cabaret club with continuous shows. Jacks is now a bar called frankies. Things cant remain the same just as in your own towns life moves on
Yes.... Andy is sorely missed but he has passed the Clowns reins onto Crusty Craig. His old sidekick is now the clown and does guest appearances in Smugglers (Cap Salou) and other places in Salou.
Champions is sadly no more and has remained closed now for over 2 years.
Chaplins is for the family until around 10pm and it then turns into an adult cabaret club with a lot of tribute acts managed by RJP.
There is a new pub open with a nice terrace just up from Salou Suite called the Palm Tree.
Lennys old Rovers is now a Spanish night club. Not been in there. Looks a little strange... ahem!
Rick is the hypnotist. You are chatting to him on this thread now. Lots have changed and by 2016 you will see huge change at the Calle Vendrell end. Barcelona World has been approved.... new hotel and casino amongst other big developments. Watch out for a Chinese influx as well as a few Russians.
I just hope it is all marketed properly so that the Brits keep coming on Ryanair so that O'Leary doesn't pull the plug again!
No matter what slight changes may have taken place I'm sure it is still the same Salou that my famiy and I have come to love over the years. The buzz and variety of Salou, the magnificent beaches, the charm of nearby Cambrils, the culture of nearby Tarrogona and Barcalona, I doubt these things would change in thirty years, let alone three. We would certainly recommend it to families young and old.
I have seen Rick's hypnotism act a few times AV, I have also seen Rodney Piper do a hypnotism act a few times, I'm sure it was in Chaplins where I saw Rodneys act. Both hypnotists are very good.
