Re: Fury as Ryanair imposes yet another compulsory passenger charge

So...how ELSE do they pay for the expenses of passengers who experience delays or flight cancellations Keith? Remember, this was brought about by EU LAWYERS in the first place...NOT RYANAIR. CURE THE PROBLEM,NOT THE RESULT!!! RYANAIR ARE NOT A CHARITY. Yet some people seem to think they are entitled to low-cost travel as a given divine right.
IF you CAN'T afford to FLY, then DON'T FLY!! Take a coach, or train, walk, cycle...grow wings...but for heaven's sake.....
Sorry for the rant...but I see this 'entitlement' attitude more and more every day. And the ad hominem rants against Ryanair just get old so quickly

Please remember...these 'expenses' were caused by people too mean to buy holiday travel insurance!!BLAME THEM!!!But you want to blame Ryanair for a freaking VOLCANO erupting, for example?? Next thing people will want their Lottery and Bingo money back if they don't win.
You do realise, I hope, that without Ryanair and Easyjet to name but 2, the major airlines would be free to raise their prices as much as they wished without their competition to restrict them from doing so...and what would you say THEN?

Re: Fury as Ryanair imposes yet another compulsory passenger charge

Hi Nick, every time I fly Ryanair, when we land you get the irritating clapping and cheering for themselfs, WE ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT HAVE A MORE THAN 95% RATE OF ARRIVING ON TIME. If this is true, why do they need to chatge us for their delays? Another question: if you, me and the ladies go out for a meal, and I pay with my card, the restaurant gets charged ONCE for accepting the card. Ryanair will charge me 5 TIMES (=50 euros, where they only pay maybe pay 1% to VISA) if I travel with my family and use my card to pay for it (and there is NO ALTERNATIVE) Visa electron used to be free of charge, because they get the money instantly, but they charge you now aswell. No doubt they do some good deals, but if the local goverment gave you a fraction of the money they give to Ryanair, you could do gigs for 10 euros a night. And just wait and see what happens when the contract runs out. They will sqeeze us like an orange, and when no more money is made available, they will drop us like a hot potatoe.

Nino. I would love to buy a new car...but I can't afford one. Simple isn't it? There is no writing on the wall saying anybody is obliged to lower their prices for the convenience of their potential customers (YOU should know that better than most )
We have been spoilt rotten over the last few years, and we got comfy with it. Now it is time to ride the rough train, or stay at home.
Salou would be in deeper doo-doo than it is NOW, without Ryanair. Why? because they force the Airlines AND the Tour Companies to compete. And ,of course, the many thousands of independent travellers they bring to Salou.
Please remember, finally...NOBODY HERE, OR ANYWHERE ELSE,FOR THAT MATTER, know how much Ryanair take from the citys they fly to, or how much they have to pay out again for a million other things.
WHy should the Hotels where delayed passengers get to stay the night be allowed to charge MORE at that time than normal...and yet Ryanair have to pay for those people to STAY there. That ain't right now...is it?
Point-of-sale methods are the sole right of the vendor, and the right to refuse to buy is that of the purchaser. Simple economics tells you that they survive, and do well on their system. Stop trying to run somebody else's business for them! I think I will visit you sometime and start telling you what to do there I am pretty sure I know what the result would be...

Hi Nick, I've taken some time, and given it a lot of thought, And done some research. Ryanair carries about 1,3 million passengers a week, multiplied by 2 euros makes 2,6 MILLION EUROS A WEEK. Add this to the fact that Ryanair is notorious for leaving passengers abandoned in the middle of the night at closed airports, to what conclusion might one come? Do you remember when they first introduced paying for luggage? A barrel of oil cost about 140$ so they had to charge us for luggage. Fair enough, I can't argue with that. When oil dropped to 40$ a barrel, Ryanair changed the charge for suitcases, putiing it up from 10€ to 15€. My argument is notwhether they should charge or not, it's about the lies. Seventy-five years ago this would have been called propaganda, nowadays they call it spin, to me it's just lies. They claim that over 95% of their flights are on time, why do they need 2,6 MILLION EUROS A WEEK to pay for hotels?
On the matter of DOO-DOO. As long as we keep pooring money into Ryanair (a private company) they will keep flying to Reus. As soon as the money stops we will be in the DOO-DOO. Subsidies are ment to get a company started, not to finance it indefenately. Also as a fervent anti-socialist you shouldn't be defending mr. O'Leary, the king of spin and free enterprise (on goverment money). I understand that he is there to make money, and that is no crime, but the way he lies to us is insulting. I wonder how you or anyone else would feel if I advertised a 10 oz steak for 3 euros, and subsequently charge you for the plate it comes on, the cutlery you ask for, the chair you sit on, the chef that cooks it, and the waiter that serves it.
Something to think about?

Re: Fury as Ryanair imposes yet another compulsory passenger charge

i remember the days before ryan air and easy jet at the time i lived in Benidorm and there were flights to alicante year round but you either paid around £160 for monarch or other holiday flight or you went on standby sitting in airport for hours untill a seat was availible now we can at the click of a mouse book a cheep flight (I priced one a few weeks ago to Reus from Liverpool for £12.99 no tax no cancelation charge and if i had used a pre paid mastercard would not have to pay card fee so you can still fly cheap if you shop around.
Oh by the way im driving back across france since bilbao ferry now gone and that will cost aprox £500 inc tolls fuel and hotels plus food and drinks
If i didnt need transport and have to bring a load of stuff id be on Olearys planes every time

CAVEAT EMPTOR

Re: Fury as Ryanair imposes yet another compulsory passenger charge

A line out of the Ryanair publication on results:
RYANAIR’S FULL YEAR PROFIT RISES 204%
Why do they need another 2,6 mln a week (=135 mln/year)extra?
A quote from Wikipedia: Caveat emptor, pronounced /ˌkævi.ɑːt ˈɛmptɔr/, is Latin for "Let the buyer beware". Generally, caveat emptor is the property law doctrine that controls the sale of real property after the date of closing.(yes, I had to look it up, but I'm still confused)
Finally, prices of travel and holidays in general have been dropping for a long time now. Where a holiday in Spain for a family would cost a chunk out of their budget, now it's a lot cheaper, because there is a lot more competition. And it's dropped even more due to the crisis. Ryanair is a factor in this, but not all the credit goes to them.

Re: Fury as Ryanair imposes yet another compulsory passenger charge

point taken nick, yes i know ryanair have costs to cover etc and yes some people should take out travel insurance, it should be made illegal for people to travel without insurance as it is as important as a passport
with all the extra charges which ryanair impose on the public this latest charge does seem a bit unfair as other airlines are not doing this and mr o'leary seems to try to screw the public and officialdom when ever he can , the ryanair motto should be, make money at any cost (as long as its not them counting the cost), lol.
that's why i normally travel by car to Manchester and fly with JET2 to either reus or barcelona, even though flying ryanair from liverpool would be easier. NUFF SAID

Re: Fury as Ryanair imposes yet another compulsory passenger charge

You get what you pay for, and ryanair is the best thing since sliced bread, cheap and reliable. If you dont like what they offer its simple use another carrier.

Re: Fury as Ryanair imposes yet another compulsory passenger charge

The other companies DO charge for all of these things, they just don't break down the final price!I've travelled with Ryanair for years without any problems. I enjoy the CHOICE I have. I check out the final prices of the various companies and then after I weigh up the pros and cons, I choose which one suits me.

Re: Fury as Ryanair imposes yet another compulsory passenger charge

It's still good that if I swerve going up town for a few sherberts and a curry for three Saturdays running, I can trouser enough for the flight to Reus and transfer to Salou. So all in all, I think Ryanair and other providers are much of a muchness and still affordable to the majority.

The perception of individual companies is possibly affected by the way they declare how they come to their final price. Some break it down into a few quid for this, a couple of bob for that and a handful of change for the other (now that sounds like a bargain for 'the other'!!!!), whilst rivals may have an upfront price that doesn't vary from click one on the computer all the way through to pressing 'send'.

Whichever way a potential customer gets to the final cost, it will be that final cost that determines whether they wish to buy or not.

Anyway, is the weather on the up or down for Easter, guys & girls??
