Hi don't know if anyone can steer me in the right direction for car insurance in spain for a classic car!with UK plates I only have 90 days european policy at the moment which is no good as i will be over in salou for the season!

What a terrible attitude what about if you have an accident with no insurance damaging another vehicle or persons.Also having no mot is putting other road users at risk, you need a reality check with such a irresponsible attitude.

sorry rick thats the problem with computers i cant see your tongue , but have met many with that attitude in the past to cars here.
Funny thing is, many people who drive without insurance are more careful drivers than those who DO..for the simple reason they HAVE to be more careful. Anyway, insurance is a scam. Why the frick have I paid over 35,000 pounds in my lifetime for insurance, just to pay for idiots who drink and drive, or are just plain rotten drivers? And the rest of them who make false claims and get away with it?

I have more right to moan about me, and many many others having paid insurance premiums and never claimed a penny, OR got a penny back for my honesty.If people had to pay out their own pockets when they frick up, the roads would be ONE HUNDRED PER CENT SAFER. Unless, of course, some cretin steps off the pavement to avoid some imaginary cloud of smoke being caused by a bunch of hooligan smokers.

So are you seriously advocating that people drive without insurance. Most people that drive with no insurance are teenagers , are you one as your comments are very childish.Yes smoking in a car is disgusting and unsafe.

Sad, yes, and my condolences. But I have yet to see an insurance policy which brings somebody back to life. Was the driver not insured ? I'd hate to think somebody who considered ANY amount of financial compensation was remotely fitting for the loss of somebody's life should go without such 'compensation'?? Or do you think an Insurance Company paying out hundreds of thousands of pounds to the bereaved will somehow punish the offender? It doesn't. It just punishes everybody who DOES have insurance, and will end up paying even HIGHER premiums
Oh, and I take it my question about which is worse: tobacco smoke or car fumes was too difficult to reply to, so you just chose to change the subject instead?
No longer true here in Spain Rick. If your ITV has expired, you must get your car taken to the inspection station by grua. You also must provide a valid insurance certificate before the car can be tested.
And if it fails, grua back home again 
Asfar as I know, if you import a foreign vehicle into Spain, you can only re-register it here if:
1. It is lefthand drive.
or:2.
You can prove you owned the vehicle BEFORE you applied for your Residencia.
The latter might have changed though. Although I haven't seen a RHD car with Spanish plates..
And if it fails, grua back home again

the last time i checked it was possible to import a right hand drive car in the past it was ok just to have beem adapters but now you need your headlights changed. but also one barrier to importing is the fees often more than the vehicle is worth. I also consulted with dvla as to the legality of driving a car that was to be repatriated to the uk and the advice was that in france and spain would be ok as the countrys arnt too bothered about Mot/ Itv on foregn car and would be able to drive off to a pre booked mot in the uk althoug the advisor also recommended gruaing the car back to UK.
hiya! this is all very interesting! still not getting my insurance! I contacted the catalunya insurance and they took lots of details and never got back? heyho you would think with the state of the economy companies would jump at new business! back to my search!!!

Glad to hear that. Mary has been a Godsend in providing excellent service and very reasonable prices too. beaten everybody else I have ever had insurance with, and it keeps OUR money LOCAL!!
