Shopping at Reus

The price difference with the coast takes tourists to buy in Reus.

In addition, consumers also say they are close to the capital of the Baix Camp because in summer the population cannot find certain products, that there is little variety.

BEGOÑA RUIZ - 18/08/2009(Diari de Tarragona)

Reus shops are these holiday days on the Costa Daurada who, fleeing the high prices of the tourist areas, near the capital city of the Baix Camp to fill the shopping cart.
"On the beach for anything you charge twice," explains Sergio Moreno and Julio Nogués. These two young tourist from Saragossa and Coma-Ruga where approached yesterday in Reus, where they made purchase in a supermarket.
According to a board member of Unió Botiguers Reus, Ernest Juncosa, food is the largest difference in prices between the shops on the coast and inland cities as Reus.
"Many shops along the coast during the summer months, they have more staff costs and rent, among other things, and the large amount of work that they have regarding the season. This inevitably affects the prices of products. In addition, many have to earn in three months what others earn in a year, 'explained Juncosa. "In most cities of the interior, and Reus, rates are kept flat."
However, according to Mr. Juncosa, there are some products that, by contrast, tend to be cheaper in the coastal area because it is widely sold, and in cities as Reus, however, only be sold from time to time.
More Variety
Another reason that tourists come to the capital of the Baix Camp is because they find more variety of products. "As restaurants goes the populations of the coast are very well equipped, and as well the stores that are dedicated to selling souvenirs. But sometimes you look for something different and cannot find it, 'said Ernest Juncosa.
A situation that Maite Vernet, a tourist from Barcelona in Salou this summer found out, and she had to go yesterday to Reus to purchase specific products for babies that she could not found in the capital of the Costa Daurada. "Salou focused heavily on tourism, the sale of souvenirs, but products are limited"said Maite.
A view shared by Manoli Delgado and Juan Trujillo, two residents from the province of Ciudad Real, and holidaying in Salou where yesterday also approached at a Reus checkout. "If you want variety you have to come to Reus, 'he explained. But the limitation is not only for the products of daily use. Tourists also come to Reus looking for other services such as banks or niche products.
The shops in Reus are seeking the summer opportunities to benefit from tourism, despite being an inner city. A fact which has increase due to the actual crisis. Since tourists increasingly want to buy cheaper.
