Food and Drink prices in Salou

Hi all, we are going to Salou for the first time in September, we normally avoid Eurozone due to it being very expensive, done Menorca a couple of times and food and drink prices were horendous. Anyways, this will our first holiday for a few years which is not All Inclusive so we would like a few pointers on food and drink costs, we are not talking posh food, may be the occasional chineese but as we will be staying Half Board, mainly daytime snacks, and of course the price of beer, a few pointers on where to go would be helpfull as well, we will be stying at the Calypso. The reason I'm asking is that due to unforseen circumstances things are a little tight so we will have to budget a little, I am hoping to take about £1200 spending money, that's for 2 adults and a child.

Re: Food and Drink prices in Salou

You will find a big variation of prices in Salou... it all depends where you go but Minorca is significantly more expensive than this area!
There are 2 nice little cafes just around the corner from the Calypso both Spanish owned. The first one is called Fordies... budget snacks and drink. The staff from the Calypso use Fordies... a good sign.

If you follow this road down to Carles Buigas you will find an abundance of cafes/bars. Saltchi(Spanish), Jacks(English), Hollandaluz(Dutch) are all favorites and reasonably priced.

The nearest good Chinese is a good 10 minutes walk to Hong Kong buffet. Expect to pay 10 euros for the buffet and anything up to 20 euros for a la carte. Here are the directions : -

On average expect to pay 2 to 2.50 euros for a local pint. 1.50 to 2 euros for a 330ml bottle local beer. As with anything in Spain imported beers/ciders/spirits are more expensive. If you are into Magners, Carling, John Smiths, etc then it all depends which bar has which promo on. Expect to pay a euro more for imported.
Take a walk down to here for some great sea front bars, cafes and ice cream parlours! The sangria from El Rinconcito is very special!

Re: Food and Drink prices in Salou

We've stayed at Calypso many times and can definitely vouch for Fordies, fabulous baguettes for a nice lunch, last time we were there (2 years ago) the were selling pints of the local beer for 1.50 euro!! The owner is absolutely lovely, really friendly and great with the kids

Re: Food and Drink prices in Salou

Can't find it... Need more directions please.

Re: Food and Drink prices in Salou

I can also vouch for Fordies. Its at the top end of the same road that the Rovers, Hollandaluz and Jacks are situated.... opposite Camping la Union and around the corner from the Calypso. Here it is on a map : -
