Adjustment time?
Rode a Cruz Saturday. Loved it but had a sore butt after only half an hour. It's lasted two days. Is there an adjustment period for this type of bike seat? Have other people experienced this? How long will it take to get aclimated? How hard is it to find the "sweet spot"? Is is more a matter of seat height or seat angle or both? Any tips would be appreciated. |

Some people adapt really quick, and others do not. My wife took to her Fusion right away with only minor tweaks to dial it in. I, on the other hand, had a long drawn out process to get comfortable. You definitely have to play around with angle and height to find the sweet spot. I eventually had to add some extra foam layers for the seat to work for me. It was definitely worth the work as far as I am concerned because I really enjoy both my Fusion and my Dynamik. |

There's an adjustment time involved, because the position has you using your legs in a different manner than the diamond frame bike. The butt pain you feel is probably where the muscles of your upper leg meet your butt, right? In the lower half of your butt cheek. If you ride more it goes away. Seat height should be right - if you set the seat so that your knee is locked with your leg fully extended with heel on the pedal, when you put the ball of your foot over the spindle of the pedal you ought to be OK heightwise. Then you need to find the tilt that works for you. I see plenty of folks here that tilt their seats pretty far forward, almost riding leaning up against the seat rather than being perched on it. Personally, I can't do it. My seats are practically flat. I don't like to slide down much. Oh, and I say "seats" because I have four RANS bikes, and one of them is tandem. So we have 5 of these seats and they're all comfy. I rode my Cruz over 400 miles in the first 10 days I owned it. By the time I was done doing I was fully aware of all the new CF muscles I was using... in the backs of my thighs, my abdomen, my upper body. My 2 cents. Eric |
