have just seen the Drayton web site and one item missing from the past is that Drayton won the North Berks War Memorial Cup in season 1954-5 on the ABINGDON TOWN Ground.
This was the first club to have won the trophy three times over past season's and the cup was then played for by minor teams which was then under 18years of age.
The final was played against Botley Minors which were a team playing in the Oxford League our team was made up for this competition from the lads from drayton and a few players from Steventon. This was a fantastic result of 2-0 as we were the underdogs expected to be thrashed but on the day we outplayed them and I have the medal to prove it.
One sad fact though was no onetook any photo's of the winning team |
