Just realised I have not answered the original question.
For what it is worth my opinion is that the previous furniture is extremely functional, its configuration is very flexible and it has stood the test of time. The last point is important as the environment means it takes a bit of a hammering and needs to be able to withstand that.
I can see no point in changing what we have - I have however just one vote as does everyone else and will clearly abide by the majority (only joking will take my ball and go home if I don't get my own way!!!!)
