The Pies kicked off Round 6 by bouncing back to the winners list against an under-manned Essendon. No surprise with this result as the Dons are going to struggle more than usual with a sad injury list at present. Collingwood have returned to the top 8 after this win and are set for a blockbuster clash next week against the Hawks.
The Dockers pushed the Cats hard in the other ANZAC day clash in the west. Opening a seven goal lead by midway through the second term, Freo fans couldn't believe their eyes, but then in a blink of an eye the Cats had reduced the margin to one kick by the main break. Freo continued to run and work hard in the second half but just fell short by the barest of margins. A good effort from Fremantle against a lacklustre Geelong, but still, another loss!
Adelaide travelled to Melbourne to take on a resurgent Blues side and burst the Carlton bubble. Competitive for most of the game the Blues just did not posess the polish to topple Adelaide. The Crows put in their usual disciplined performance and were rewarded for their efforts with a top 4 ladder position.
The Doggies had an easy victory over the disastrous Eagles to consolidate their top 4 status. The Eagles were never going to be able to out score the pacy and skilful Dogs and are fast becoming the 2nd worst team in the AFL. Maybe next weeks clash at home against the Blues is for that mantle. Bulldog fans will be happy with their sides consistency this season and may be witnessing their teams best year for some time.
Port have posted their second win in a row after a slow start, toppling the Saints at home. The Power are starting to get reward for their efforts but still have a long way to go to overcome their poor early form. St.Kilda, on a wet night, found their talls ineffective and without them firing, well they can hardly beat a drum.
The Lions had this weeks "walk in the park" as they were fortunate enough to play the Demons. 'nuf said.
In a game that posed a tipping dilemma the Swans and Roos have ended with a draw. Probably a very good reflection of the difference between these two teams at present, who are both playing solid football. Both are in the 8 and I expect them to stay put.
The Hawks have continued their undefeated season with a 12 point victory over the improved Tigers. The reality of the score is that the Hawks could have won the game by 15 goals such was there dominance. Inaccurate kicking kept Richmond in the game but they were never going to beat the talented Hawks. I think it showed that although improved, the Tigers are still a long way from finals footy.
