Message:   The Bulldogs turned around a six goal quarter-time deficit and ran all over the tall, clumsy, slow and over-rated Saints. Superior tackling, pace and method ensured the Doggies a comfortable victory and a fine start to Season 2008.

In a tough, hard tackling encounter the Hawks have over powered their nemesis North Melbourne. It was an entertaining game that saw the Roos stifle the Hawks running game, but were still unable to win the chocolates. Hawthorn showed resolve they perhaps lacked last season once again confirming their improvement in season 2008.

Freo have taken the honours in the battle of the West in a typically tough, hard-fought derby. The game looked like it could go either way for a long time, but it was the championship qualities of star Docker Matthew Pavlich that reigned supreme, guiding his Dockers to victory. The Coasters seem to have plenty of work to do if they want to play finals this year.

Sydney have confirmed themselves as a real contender again in 2008 with a strong performance to knock of the Lions in their own Stadium. Still one of the AFL's hardest tackling and defensive teams, the Swans appear to have added a further potent attacking element this season. They will prove a tough opponent for all teams.

The Bombers have reigned supreme in another game that completely lacked defensive pressure. Choosing to have a shoot-out rather than play accountable football, the ordinary Blues were never going to win in what was an entertaining game to watch, if you like circle work.

The Cats have comfortably accounted for a far more determined Melbourne outfit in their first home game for the season. With a few players down the Cats were made to work hard in a game that many predicted would end in 100+ point stomping. To Melbourne's credit they actually managed to put in for 4 full quarters and gave their supporters some hope that they might be able to have a win this season.

The pacy Pies have easily accounted for the Tigers in an expected victory. Collingwood are showing they will again play finals this year and I expect there to be quite a few teams between them and the struggling Tigers by season end.

The Crows have battled hard for a 6 point victory in a typically physical and desperate Showdown. Leading for most of the game they had Port's measure at every challenge throughout, earning the title as Adelaide's current best team. Great resolve was shown after losing players to aggressive tackling and bumping applied by the Power, who might have been wiser applying the same aggression toward getting the ball.
