The Hawks find themselves still on top of the AFL ladder after a comfortable victory gainst the Dockers in Perth. With an exciting running game and great talent amongst their youth, the Hawks have improved further this season and are a definate top 4 contender. The Dockers, although 0-2 have performed admirably against two of the leagues best, but are just off the pace at this stage.
The Cats jolted the new look Bombers back to reality after the Dons impressive win against the Roos last week. In an awesome display of 'ball ownership' Geelong are well and truly flag favourites again this season. Set to unfurl their flag next week at home against the appalling Demons, they could win by 150 points.
Brisbane and Collingwood battled hard in a dour struggle in the wet at the Gabba where the Lions fell over the line. Both sides are impressive units and I expect to see them both on the field in September.
The Bulldogs have started the season in fine form and had no trouble in easily accounting for the dismal Demons. They are showing early potential but I am not getting carried away just yet, their test will come this week when they take on the much fancied Saints.
St.Kilda are rolling along nicely, comfortably knocking off the Blues as expected. Many are tipping them as Geelongs main challenge and some say they can win the flag. From what I have seen, I have them at about 5th or 6th at best. Not much improvement on last year and too slow for the top sides in the competition.
The Swans have demoralised last years grand finalists Port Power at the SCG. Always tough to beat at home, Sydney have shown they are yet again a force to be reckoned with this season. The Power on the other hand must be judged by their away form , rather than home form, and at this early stage appear to have let a few sides slide past them this year. A good test this week in their local derby against the in form Crows.
Adelaide have shown West Coast are on the slide this season with a thumping victory. Albeit at home, the Crows have struggled to defeat the Coasters anywhere of recent times, and I dont believe Adelaide have improved on last year. Not a very good sign for the Weagles, who seem to lack method.
North bounced back to the winners list after last weekends shock defeat at the hands of the Bombers. Playing an improved Tiger outfit the Roos showed they can still apply the pressure required to win many games this season. On the other hand Richmond will struggle to accumulate wins.
