The Eagles burst out of the blocks in the first term running all over the Lions who appeared shell shocked to start. Brisbane then steadied and etched away at the deficit until they actually took the lead and looked a realistic winning chance. The Coasters were able to see the challenge off in the last quarter and proved too strong in the finish, despite an ominous 6 goal haul by Jonathon Brown. The game was riddled with disposal errors and both sides look to be under done at this stage. Brisbane have some definate talent and may be on the improve this season, but neither side look like they will match it with the best at this early stage of the season.
