crysede silks

I'm researching crysede silks, made in newlyn and st ives in the 20s and 30s for my dissertation- can anyone help, memories of workers or people whose parents or grandparents worked there and talked about it, people who own pieces or have photographs, anything would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to develop an online archive so more people can learn about the company- thanks

Re: crysede silks

Hi Sally Jane!

The Cornwall Record Office have some correspondence from Crysede Ltd from the 1920s. They are in the correspondence section of the Mornington of St Ives collection (GHW/12/3/6/1/***), but you would need to trawl through each of the general letters bundles for the relevant period. I catalogued the collection but am not certain as to how useful they might be (there are about 10,000 letters in this collection so I don't remember them all); the letterheads are interesting though. The letter books in the same collection (GHW/12/3/6/2/**) may also have copies of letters sent to Crysede by Glanvilla & Hamilton, the land agents of the Earls of Mornington and the Earls Cowley. I would think that all of these letters are purely administrative and relate to rent, so they may not be of much use.
